Volunteer Opportunities
“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.”
— Charles Dickens
Volunteers are an important part of the care and compassion Stillwater Hospice provides. Our volunteers offer meaningful support to patients and caregivers while helping create moments of connection, comfort, and dignity during a deeply personal time.
Volunteering with Stillwater Hospice is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people in your community while also experiencing the fulfillment that comes from sharing your time, compassion, and unique abilities with others.
How Volunteers Help
Hospice volunteers provide a variety of supportive services for patients and families. Many volunteers offer companionship by visiting patients in their homes, spending time talking, listening, or simply being present.
Volunteers may also provide brief periods of respite for caregivers, allowing them time to rest or attend to personal needs. In some cases, volunteers may assist with small household tasks, errands, or shopping to help make daily life a little easier for families.
Volunteer Training
All Stillwater Hospice volunteers receive training before beginning their service. This preparation helps volunteers understand what to expect, how to provide compassionate support, and how to make the most of their volunteer experience.
Training also allows our team to learn more about each volunteer’s interests, skills, and availability so we can match them with opportunities that best fit their strengths.
Volunteer Skills We Value
Successful hospice volunteers often share a few important qualities, including dependability, compassion, and the ability to listen with patience and understanding. Volunteers should feel comfortable supporting individuals and families during the final stages of life with empathy and respect.
If you have particular talents or professional skills you would like to share, there may be opportunities to provide specialized volunteer services.
These may include:
• Hairstyling
• Massage services
• Art or music enrichment
• Spiritual care
• Capturing personal histories through audio or video interviews
• Bereavement assistance
